Meet The Artist

Hi, I’m Kaneesha!

I’m also known as Canela Paint.

I’m a Christian, Mother, Digital Artist, and Art Enthusiast.

My art journey began in 2020, during the pandemic, when everyone was quarantined to stay home. I was furloughed from work and was the first time I was forced to be still, since I was 16. I was nervous if I would ever return back to work and if I didn’t; what would I do?, what was I good at?, and what hobbies do I have? I began exploring painting and eventually digital art applications. I found something I could spend hours doing, that felt like no time had really passed. From there, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing mentors, fellow artist peers, and friends who support and motivate me. My family has also been a big part of my journey.  Happily, I did return back to work during that year, but I can confidently say that I have found my passion and purpose.  It’s been a blessing to see how my footprint has grown with pop up shops, festivals, businesses, and now galleries.

I bet you are wondering… why use the artist name, Canela Paint? Canela means cinnamon in Spanish. It was a nickname (Canela de piel) given to me over 15 years ago, by a friend who always wanted to let me know how much she loved my skin tone. The name grew on me. It embodies self-love and I hope that others, who look like me, see the beauty of themselves in my art.

I create art that is authentic to lifestyles and stories of those who don’t typically see themselves in art spaces. My hope is to continue having the opportunities to showcase and have those conversations. My art is bold, colorful, and tells a story of beauty and resilience in the space of adversity and doubt.

This past year has been expansive for me, and I can’t wait to share all the fun things happening in 2025. For now, I would love your support with my self-published books, visiting my exhibitions, and seeing you at my debut solo exhibition!

Thank you to all who have supported my craft- from buying art or books. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed!
